A Velha is an exciting new addition to the local restaurant scene in Abrantes. Situated on the site of a popular tavern that was run for many decades and had become known fondly as 'A Velha' (translated as 'The Old Lady' on their English menus), it offers accomplished cooking with friendly service - offering a mixture of international dishes with a local flavour (e.g. a ceviche using a mix of both sea fish and river fish from the nearby Tejo) as well as traditional local dishes with something of a modern, international twist. Not the cheapest restaurant in the area but still good value for the quality, and a good option if you're looking for something a little bit 'fancy'. They offer monthly wine dinners with a selection of wines matched to both existing dishes and some that they are experimenting with. A very good restaurant run by a team that genuinely care about what they do.
