Very soon, our beautiful new tourist unit will be available for rent. The Abrigo do Monte (Hillside Shelter) is a fantastic new addition to Fadagosa, with huge picture windows that bring the outside in, and allow you to lie in bed watching the swallows soaring and the seasons changing.

How it came about
We always knew we wanted to expand the accommodation available to guests at Fadagosa, but the question was – how could anything rival the windmill? Our question was answered when we discovered the remains of an old animal barn on the hillside (we didn’t even know it was there when we bought the property). The old barn was set into the hill and faced out onto our favourite view, down the valley, and so we started thinking… what if…?
Working with our friend and architect Joana Rosa we came up with a design which truly makes the most of its spectacular position and views. From inside the Abrigo you feel as though you are suspended above Fadagosa, you can see and hear the river, watch the goats as they roam around, and count stars as they emerge at night.
Inside, we worked to make the space (approx. 50 sqm) as comfortable as possible, with a full kitchen (including oven and hob), large bathroom with twin showers, wood burner for winter, and a pull-out bed suitable for children. A terrace completes the Abrigo, and allows for outdoor eating, complete with fresh herbs growing in a little kitchen garden.
Built to live in
As with the windmill, Simon and I wanted to make sure every detail was considered and every comfort available to guests who choose the Abrigo, and so we lived in it! We spent every season there and made adjustments so it is cosy in winter and fresh in summer. We are now ready to share it with the world, and once we have the license in place we will let you all know!
The Abrigo will be available for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children, with a minimum booking of 2 nights. For groups who would like to book the windmill and the Abrigo at the same time, there will be a discount.
We hope to welcome our first guests this winter. We're so pleased with this new little piece of Fadagosa. We wanted somewhere guests could feel part of the landscape, and that's exactly what the Abrigo has become.
