They said yes!!!!

The windmill is a romantic place, no doubt, but springtime here is an extra special time to celebrate love: the lavender and rock rose is in flower, the nightingales sing at night, and the changing weather brings rainbows and dramatic skies. It is still cool enough in the evening to get cosy in front of the roaring fire, yet warm enough during the day to take a dip in the river. So all in all, a great time of year to bring a loved one to the mill. And this spring, we were over the moon to host two marriage proposals! The first was when Daniel asked Tom (both from the UK) to marry him shortly after they had arrived for their three night stay. Tom, of course, said yes and to celebrate the occassion we arranged for rainbow to appear :) You can read about the propsal in the blog that Tom wrote to remember this special moment:

I said yes. We danced on the decking to music for two hours. We barely spoke a word. The moment was abundant, infused with beauty and aliveness. We looked out at the panorama of the Portuguese hills. Natural lavender, white exotic flowers, and Moorish yellow scrubs shimmered. The clouds moved quickly, blossoming from bright pink to dark grey, and then the heavens opened. We took refuge in our windmill.

It was not even a week later that Fernando and Marta (both from Madrid) drove to the windmill for what Marta thought was a single night stay. The next morning Fernando asked for her hand in marriage and, of course, she said yes! The added bonus was that Fernando had actually booked a further two nights at the mill to celebrate.
